Reed-Mace - Aquatic Plant - Plant

Typha angustifolia
Reed-Mace is a very popular aquatic plant with a highly decorative inflorescence. Reed-Mace has tiny brown flowers that are shaped in cylindrical spikes. Dark brown female flowers can be found towards the bottom, while straw-coloured male flowers can be found towards the top of the flower. The cigar-shaped flower heads can also be dried. Aquatic plants add the finishing touch to a garden pond and give it a natural appearance. Besides being attractive, these plants have an important biological function. They keep the water clear by absorbing nutrients so that there is nothing left for the algae to feed on.

Cover everything with the remaining jute and sprinkle with a layer of gravel. Place the basket just below the surface or up to 10-30 cm deep in the pond. If your pond is not too shallow, you can place your basket within a pile of stones. This plant can also grow in a large tub with water. Place this plant in complete sunshine. The best time to plant is between May and June.

Reed-Mace makes combines perfectly with all other aquatic plants

Reed-Mace is an elegant narrow-leaved aquatic plant that will give your pond a very natural look. It combines perfectly with the flowering rush (Butomus Umbellatus) and yellow iris (Pseudacorus) along the edge of a natural pond. These riparian plants will definitely attract several insects.

Reed-Mace's flowers are great for drying and are therefore very popular for dried arrangements. Its long, narrow leaves resemble reeds.

Reed-Mace is an easy-growing pond plant that requires minimal maintenance. Cut off its dead leaves in autumn and remove them from the pond. If the clump grows too large, you should take Reed-Mace out of the pond in May, divide the clump into smaller pieces and plant only one piece back inside the pond.
